Screen shot 2011-11-08 at 11.41.44 AM.jpgA spectacular, one of a kind piece of artwork has been created in Gippsland by leading Melbourne artist Cory Thomas.Tourism Victoria in conjunction with Destination Gippsland commissioned Thomas to develop and construct the inspiring piece as part of a tourism video promoting the Gippsland region.

Titled An Artist’s Journey of Inspiration the video, created by Publicis Mojo, Melbourne, captures the inspiration, development and construction of the artwork throughout the entire process – from seeking inspiration and gathering materials, to crafting and producing the finished product. The video is set for public release on the 14th November and will appear in Moonlight cinemas, on Gippsland’s tourism website.

The coastal grass sculpture, which captures the inspiring scenery and walking trails of the region, was built using over 200 silver ash tree branches sourced from the local area.

Created in Croajingolong National Park, the piece of art weighs over half a tonne and stands approximately five metres high.

Terry Robinson, Destination Gippsland CEO, believes the artistic creation complements Gippsland’s fantastic nature based offering: “The premise behind the production was to document the creative journey of developing this inspiring and natural Gippsland art piece. The story peaks with a finished sculpture in the beautiful natural environment of Croajingolong National Park.

“Gippsland is a nature based destination and this spectacular piece of artwork, along with the video, will help to showcase the diverse landscape throughout the region,” says Robinson.

Corey Thomas commented that he was inspired by the visually powerful and diverse natural beauty of the area: “Being out in Gippsland’s national parks and responding to nature and nature’s design…It was fantastic,” says Thomas.
